Welcome to the African Mobility Scholars Association (AMSA) Blog. We invite AMSA members and stakeholders to share insights, experiences, and research reflections related to migration and mobility across Africa and its diaspora. This academic blog aims to foster vibrant discussion, to present scholarly concepts, research results, and thoughtful analyses in a way that is both accessible and engaging for audiences within and outside academia. To maintain high quality and relevance, all submissions must follow the guidelines below.
Who Can Submit
- AMSA members (students, researchers, practitioners, policymakers)
- Guest contributors with expertise in African mobility and migration (subject to approval)
- Collaborative or co-authored pieces are welcome
Blog Content Criteria
Your blog post should:
- Be related to migration, mobility, displacement, or diaspora issues in or from Africa.
- Reflect, original thinking, analysis, or commentary.
- Use a tone that is accessible to a broad audience (non-specialists, early-career researchers, civil society actors).
- Not have been published elsewhere (journal, thesis, another website) in the same form (exceptions can be discussed with the editorial team).

- Urban migration
- Labour mobility and migration
- Xenophobia and violence
- Economic mobility and migration

- International migration from and to Africa
- Global, Regional, and National policies, laws, regulations, etc.
- Policy gaps and implementation issues

Formatting Guidelines
- Length: 500 –1,000 words
- Language: English or French
- Title: Catchy, informative, max 15 words
- Structure:
- Introduction (include outline purpose)
- Main body (well-organised argument or reflection)
- Conclusion (key takeaways or call to action)
- Use short paragraphs and subheadings for readability
- Include hyperlinks to sources instead of footnotes
Multimedia and Visuals
Include images, charts or infographics to enhance your blog (optional but encouraged)
You must own the rights to the images or ensure they are in the public domain/Creative Commons. Provide image captions and credit sources.
Referencing
Hyperlink scholarly or credible sources where appropriate
If needed, use a simplified in-text citation format (e.g., UNHCR, 2023) and include a short reference list at the end (APA style)

Include:
- Author(s) name(s), institutional affiliation(s)
- A short bio (3-5 sentences)
- A headshot or preferred profile image (optional)
Review and Editorial Process
- Submissions are reviewed by AMSA’s blog editorial team.
- You may be asked to revise your post for clarity or alignment with AMSA values.
- Approved posts will be scheduled and published on the AMSA website.
- Authors will be notified of the publication date.
What We Do Not Accept
- Promotional content or commercial advertisements.
- Posts that reproduce discriminatory, xenophobic, or politically insightful language.
- Plagiarized material or content that violates copyright.
After Publication
- Promote your post via social media and networks.
- Engage with readers through comments (enabled).
- You may share the link on personal or institutional websites.
